THE TRIUMPHANT LITTLE

Title: The Triumphant Little
Genre: Children’s Film
Premise: Virtues versus Vices are Magnet versus Magic.

Some terrorists develop a computer microchip carrying data & modus to bring chaos and anarchy in India. Their aim is to overthrow the government and rule our country. As a part of their scheme they create a magnetic field where none can enter.

An old witch who practices black magic wants to get the microchip so that she can also rule India and then the whole world. But she cannot do it alone because her magical powers do not have the capacity to overpower the magnetic field enveloping the terrorist’s underground abode.

Now, a group of picnicking children unknowingly hits against the magnetic field, and falls into the trap created by the old witch. The children try to escape but do not succeed. She holds the children captives for days and threatens to kill them.

Not knowing what happened to the children, their parents and the police force move together in search of them. Their efforts become fruitless and people crowd on the streets agitating. Media give full coverage and invent different weird stories about the disappearance of the children, which confuse the people and even the search.

While violence and terror engross the city, the children face deep trouble due to the magical influence of the witch. She wants to utilize the children to get the chip, with the help of her black magic. She warns the terrified children that she will eat their souls if they fail. She will set them free only if they get hold of the chip from the terrorists and bring it back to her. The children finding no other way accept her command and start their adventurous journey.

Overcoming many hurdles, the children find out the camp of the terrorists and get into it. Though troubles are awaiting them there, the children manage them skillfully. With great effort they enter the computer lab of the terrorists and find out the chip the witch is craving for. However, the children are not easy preys to the wicked witch and the terrorists. So, revising what they have learnt in the computer class rooms of their school, the children apply their intelligence and prepare a corrupt version of the chip, and escape unnoticed and run back to the abode of the witch.

The witch is waiting for them impatiently at the doors. The children give her the duplicate chip and the moment she gets it she changes her appearance to a devilish form and vanishes. Not knowing what to do the children try to escape from the den. Before they could escape, they hear the terrorists coming after them.

After an ordeal and outwitting them, the children escape at last and reach the city. They inform the police all that happened and hand over the original chip to them. With their help the police shoot down the terrorists one by one. And while the people are showering praises on the children, another misfortune in the form of the old witch is seen hovering over the city.

Thinking what she has with her is the original chip; the witch is unleashing atrocities in the city. The children with courage encounter her closely. When she learns from them that the chip is not the original one, she tries to kill the children with her magical powers. But the children overcome it by initiating a magnetic field around them with the help of the original chip. The witch tastes defeat at the hands of the children due to this. The police try to catch her at that moment. But before the police could touch her body, she explodes and dissolves into the air. The triumphant children are now surrounded by people who pour compliments on them, for their valor and intelligence.

2050 AD (The Aftermath)

2050 AD
(The Aftermath)

Intro:

A great calamity is going to happen to the human race as well as the animals on this planet earth. Our means to survive are causing extinction of many of the poor creatures that cannot speak, which in turn will question our own existence.

The international breeding policies of cattle, cloning and the play with genetics will cause an unprecedented devastation of human race because of the origination of a new species of transgenic animals. It is alarming that this genetic alteration can be manipulated to a point of immortality too.

Super human mutants may take over this earth to oppress us by separating the human species into two. The giants and the dwarfs! The cryonics may lead to reincarnation…! The genotypes and phenotypes of chromosomes may work against each other! Think of its aftermath!

There exists a rule of the nature. It is cosmic law. No harm shall be done to that. If done, calamities in every form will ensue. Why can't we think that the Eternity, the Ultimate who created everything with care and love will not allow the man to alter his nature and equilibrium?

Story:
I am trying to reveal the catastrophe awaiting our society after a few years. ….

The story goes like this……

A young man and his girl friend are doing research on the evolution of the society to its myriad forms by interlinking the genetic transition and the religious doctrines on the basis of certain sociological pattern. It is their conviction that religious philosophies and dictums, together with the taboos induce certain gradual yet very slow, but positive unidentifiable genetic transition in the human system. The manifested positivity is supposed to be carried on to the next generation at the moment of procreation, causing an evolution in the procreated. This has to be the reason of societal evolution, according to them.

The research leads them to get access to some highly classified documents relating to the dark side of the genetic theories and breeding policies, and also about the unscrupulous attitudes of the policy makers in twisting the very concept of Mendel’s theory of inheritance.

Their study results in finding out a long kept secret that an imminent danger will befall the human race and the animals as well. They are shocked to learn this. They think of taking this cause to fight against the international policy makers and their puppet government. They secretly seek the help of certain radical social activists and start interacting with the people to make them aware of the imminent danger to the human race and to prepare them for a great revolt. To them the religious doctrines are a very convenient and effective tool and weapon to strike against the foes. But before they could act upon the inevitable happens.

The animals go berserk all of a sudden. They become violent and start attacking anything that comes across. As if stabbed, people fall and crawl on the streets. Many go mad. Others crumble. Bodies of children rupture. Blood gushes out as if the veins are cut. Their faces twisted, their jaws locked, necks broken down, and the cries of children and the old mix up with the long sirens of the screeching ambulances on the roads. Scenes of horror are everywhere. It is total chaos.

The administrators are at their wits end. The people leading by the duo agitate and revolt against the government. The political and business tycoons join their hands to oppress the revolt. All the while proprioception continues to damage the brains of the children. Their nervous systems are totally immobilized..... Some others peeling their own skins, being insane….

And what comes next is the real story….the struggle of the duo to save the people, the humanity from a total disaster…from extinction.

The Chaos continues….

Mendel's theory of inheritance suggests the underlying principles of heredity related to plants and trees are also applicable to human beings and other animals, because
the mechanisms of heredity are similar for all life forms.

The Blending theory says that the inherited traits will blend from generation to generation. But, to what extent? Nobody knows. Charles Darwin, by his Pangenesis theory held that hereditary particles in OUR BODIES ARE AFFECTED BY THE THINGS WE DO DURING OUR LIFETIME.

These modified particles will migrate via blood to the reproductive cells and subsequently could be inherited by the next generation. The haploid cells that cause sex will work no more. Lamarck's theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics will go wrong shortly.

The subject goes against the present breeding policies and cloning that prohibit cattle from having their right to procreate by mating with the opposite sex. It is an encounter with the business tycoons who sit on a mammoth figure of above 30000 billion dollar business.

According to the breeding policies the semen of the bulls and other male animals are collected through artificial means and then inseminated in the females. This insemination using the sperm of a higher order species to obtain a distinct and better offspring will not have any problems with the first few generations. After a particular period these female cattle will become barren and would not be able to deliver off spring and not even milk or meat. They may go altered: physically and mentally. They may even go mad. Just think of a flock of cattle becoming mad and attacking the human race! Our children becoming mad and violent and agony and falling dead…!!!

And please, do not forget of the love lost in between them. Think of the pain, the pangs of these God's poor animals who are not allowed to have that divine love. How could they survive long without sharing the feeling, God has created for them, which we forbid. What right we have to that? And one who goes against the will of God will be punished. Yes. The human race shall face the doom in no time. Here, even the gods may go mad in vengeance.

Can we survive without having any sexual relationship with our wives? Think of the cattle who want to lead a 'husband-wife relationship' in their own way. Think to protest against the policy of prohibiting female cattle from the company of the males. And think of the horror we do to them by castrating their genital organs to ruin. Think of them now, if not, you will never, never.

Even the scientists could not foretell what is in store. They are silent now because the business tycoons do care only to amass money out of these innocent creatures' helplessness and ignorance of the people. Where are they who boast of safeguarding the interests of the animals? Where are these animal lovers? Where are the Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals? Why can't they see this mental agony of these animals?

Please think of a generation-our children going mad by drinking even the milk from these cattle. The people who eat their meat may become distorted. The bodies go erupted and ruptured. Men and women go paralyzed. People creep. Cries and curses reverberate all over. People running in panic… Agriculture goes waste. What we eat becomes poison. And think of a community who loses their kith and kin due to the cruelty done to these animals by us. We will become extinct. The world will end then…

Title: Out of the blue...

Premise: Law of Love versus Law of Attraction of Mind, the Seventh Sense

Short Pitch: An intelligent young man accidently acquires the ESP to read the minds of others, especially that of women. Initially this gift makes him very famous, and females, young and old are attracted toward him. After some days they develop a different attitude and start avoiding him. His girl friend, Gouri with whom he is in deep love also leaves him in revulsion. Women alienate him as they think his reading their mind will put them at peril. Within no time he is swirled to a corner of an invincible fortitude from where he thinks he could never come back in his real form. Mentally tormented he attempts to get rid of the super sense, but that too becomes impossible. His relentless efforts to discard his ESP bring forth hilarious but thrilling moments that develop through distinct and unforeseen unique situations. Niyog (Death Sequence)

Title: NIYOG (Death Sequence)

Premise: What does crime dictate to conscience?

Synopsis: NIYOG is the story of Shiva, who has tonfight against odds amidst love, passion and revenge. From a state of fear psychosis he transforms himself to acquire a devilish nature and kills the man who he thinks is responsible for the death of his sister, and escapes to a distant city. He encounters troubles there, but Michael, an old man rescues him and gives him shelter. As days go by he finds that Anne, the beautiful daughter of Michael loves him. However, a smart and young Neethu utilizes the chance and seduces him. Anne sees the change in him and cries bitterly. Michael is aware of this but he is helpless. With a deep sigh he holds his dear daughter to his bosom.

Shiva knows he is responsible for this. A strange sense of uncertainty seizes him and his heart is filled with remorse. He strives to keep himself aloof from Neethu, but fails. Unable to withstand it any more, he strikes her hard in frenzy. She is shocked and leaves him in revulsion.

A war is brewing. Now it dawns on him that the earth that held him so far will hold him no more and he flees that place. He joins the army. He gets a commissioned rank. However, it gives him no joy.

The year 1971, the year of war cries dawns. Together with it come chaos and devastation.

In the camp, the doings of his partner bewilder him and the apparitions of ‘the Forester’ (Shiva’s first victim) start floating before him. He, being highly sensitive, responds in queer ways. And drowned in delusions and almost becoming insane, he returns to the very scene of the murder and unearths the remains of ‘THE DEAD’.

For a brief moment he thinks he is freed from his sins, and in trance he collects the mortal remains and goes to Haridwar. There, when the valleys echo the tolls of temple bells, he plunges ‘what is left of the Forester’ one by one into the Ganges. Seeing it sinking in the holy waters, he stands up relieved. With that the spell is broken; the soul is liberated. No more fetters, now.

Soon the India-Pak war breaks out and Shiva is in the war front, fighting for the country. When his company is about to win, the lack of reinforcement causes a set back, and he is captured by the Paks. They torture him and on their retreat, leave him behind, to meet his agonizing end in a swamp. But fate wants it in another way. So in that dreadful stillness Abdul Khalam of the ‘enemy line’ sees ‘his son’ in Shiva. Not thinking of the consequences, Khalam takes the dying man and walks towards the Indian camp.

Gruesome acts await Khalam. His wails and words do not help him and he falls unconscious creating a pool of blood under him.

Bangladesh is liberated. War is over.

Now, far away from Khalam springs up Shiva from his coma in the army hospital, to find his legs amputated. Henceforth he pulls on his wretched life in his wheel chair like an accursed one. He goes to Anne but she does not live there. They have left the place already. Not knowing where they are, he goes to Neethu. He is humiliated by her. He realizes the futility of his forlorn life.

He returns and opens a service station in the name of good old Michael. Meanwhile, he happens to remember about Abdul Khalam who saved him from the clutches of death. Having no one to care for now, he brings Khalam from Peshawar overcoming many hurdles. Days go by. Khalam is his sole companion henceforth.

One day, Shiva sees Neethu ‘in the company of a man’. The vengeance so far suppressed finds its way out. Shiva tries to kill her. But she escapes unhurt. He is exhausted and withdraws in disgust.

Time passes and the social scenario changes. Shiva’s unceasing efforts to get the whereabouts of Anne and Michael become successful. And in a far flung village, Michael reads a telegram. He then turns to and smiles at Anne. “It is Shiva”, he says. Anne is happy. Her Shiva will come.

And Shiva comes. Michael is very glad to see them united at last. With his blessings they leave for their destined life in the Service station, to satiate a happy and content life. But, Neethu is waiting to have a close encounter. It is her turn now. After all, she is not a frail woman as he thinks. So, in the dead silence of the night somebody comes into his ‘glass chamber’ unseen and unheard.
The animal instinct in him suddenly smells the impending danger. However, before he could act, everything quakes and he lies there on the floor. The cries of Anne echoes all over. Blood flows down her mutilated body. The winning roar of a female animal is heard aloud followed by an utter silence.

When the morning mist touched the window panes, Shiva opens his eyes. He sees his life-his Anne, lying on the floor lifeless in a pool of blood. He ‘roars’. It echoes all over the service station. It is terror.

Before long, the day has come, the day of Neethu’s wedding! Waves of wrath thrash him. When ‘the appointed hour’ arrives, a ‘Baraath’ is in progress under the starry sky. The marriage procession moves along the tarmac road in pomp. Suddenly, the inevitable happens. Shiva’s loud laughter reverberates all over. Along the road, blood gushes. Nobody should survive this time; neither the bride nor the groom.

Khalam is frightened. Shiva’s scornful eyes bulge out. There is blood. The unquenched wrath against his fate finds the target in Khalam and he wriggles in pain. Nevertheless, Shiva loves him, though his eyes seldom move.

Shiva starts hating his reflections and is afraid of his shadows. He hates everything that comes in front. The visions of the past float before him… The forester struggling for life……………… An axe jammed on his neck……….. Then the catastrophes…………His humiliation……………….He is being kicked out…………..The lady he loved once…………….. His guardian Michael …….Khalam….and the glass walls…All shatters one by one and the gruesome death comes in….

YASODARA - Not blog; but a script

YASODARA
(The wife of Siddhartha-Buddha)

EPISODE – 1

Scene-1 Suddhodhana’s Palace & its surroundings Night

It is night. Midnight…
The sky is bright and clear.
In the moonlit sky, away, far away near the horizon, a few stars twinkle.
Below, the expansive land mass is quiet and still with its placid hills and valleys…

In the heavy silence of the night, the palace and the wide streets beyond,
lit by the pale yellow moon, lie lost in deep slumber.
It seems the whole castle stands sans life, for no life form is seen in the vicinity.

AUDIO
Sound of a drumbeat echoes in the stillness.

Then silence…

A gentle breeze, now, moves along very timidly as if it is frightened of the dreadful silent night.

The very dead silence is now marred by the distant loud cry of timekeepers to announce the duties of the guards and time (Yamam*) and the sudden ‘booming’ sound of his odd drum beats.

The wild cry and the drumbeat echo for a while and subside.

(*Yamam - one Yamam is about 3 hrs.)

Voice Over
A loud cry, followed by the sound of one or two drum beats.

Heavy silence seizes the whole castle once again.

The gentle breeze moves along, now not in fear, but catching its momentum gradually.

The low, but ‘disturbing’ sound of soft movements of guards, invisible, and some instructions exchanged disrupt the silence somewhat and then it also subsides.

Voice Over
It’s time…Get ready… It’s time….

This voice is heard in a very low hissing, but frightening voice.
Then the dead silence is followed by the disturbing sound of soft movements of guards.

The queer stillness grasps the castle a third time.
Moments drag by.

Suddenly, a shrill shrieking pierces the still and silent night.
It is so frightening that the whole castle trembles under its weight...

Voice Over
It’s time…It’s time…It’s time…

The alien frightening words are heard more clear and louder.
A shrill shrieking follows it…

The ethereal words and the alien cries reverberate all over the castle & valleys.

The next moment, as if from nowhere, a white, sturdy bull comes running through the streets. (The very instant a very loud scream is also heard)

Voice Over
“Oh, no! Someone stop him. Or else all the fortunes of the city will go with him.”

Shaking its long, stout horns violently, the bull stamps on the ground, and bellowing loud, comes towards the city gates.
(On its forehead shines a big red gem. Its horns are painted with bright colors. Yes, it is gold!)

Shaking its horns, and bellowing loud runs this strange frightening bull…

Stamping the foot, striking the earth, shaking the horns and bellowing loud,
rushes the bull now here and there trying to go out of city gates…

Now comes, Yasodara - beautiful, very beautiful Yasodara. She comes running.
The white silk on her half-naked body is torn here and there.
Her long black uncombed hair is loose and flying like a cascade.
Her hands and legs bear signs of injury.

She falls down, gets up, with fear written in her countenance, runs after the bull.

Yasodara’s Voice Over
“Tie him up...someone tie him up, my God! Before he runs away, tie him up....”

At intervals, she cries aloud and struggles to stop the bull.
(But, no one seems to have heard her shouting).

The Bull, bellowing, turns back and comes towards her.

Yasodara is frightened and falls down…

But, coming near her, the bull retreats and runs towards the gates.

Yasodara, though with frightened face, jumps up quickly and moves towards the bull.

The next moment, catching the neck of the bull by all her might, she cries aloud.
Yasodara:
Someone close that gate...”!

The gates are seen opened itself a little.
(There is no reply to Yasodara’s shouting.)

Yasodara tries hard to stop the bull.
But dragging her with it, the bull is dashing forward.

The sight at the gates…

The gatekeepers are fast asleep.
They sleep like lifeless figures…

The next instant, the bull takes Yasodara by its horns and tosses her away.
Yasodara falls flat on the ground.
She crawls desperately.

The bull rushes forward fast.
The gate opens.

(The cries of Yasodara is heard aloud)

Voice Over
(The cries of Yasodara…)

Through the gates the bull rushes out.

(Complete silence after this)

No movement for quite some time.
(The silence continues)

Now, along the route taken by the rushing bull, from the site of the city, four figures (Dikpalakas) come walking.

(They make frame-entry into the still and silent street).

In front of them lies the long, empty street. (Yasodara is not seen there).

The approaching figures stop for a moment and look at one another and withdrawing their gaze, they stare at the Palace.

AUDIO
(Unique sound similar to that of heartbeats is heard)

They walk fast as if they are intent on carrying out some strange and secret plan of action. (Their movements show this)

(The street in front is almost soaked in silence).

At the far end is the Palace.

With their eyes fixed on the Palace and its surroundings, the four approaching Figures walk forward. Suddenly behind them are seen several similar Figures.

Then, the Figures in the front - the four of them - shout.

The four:

“It’s time... It’s time...It’s time....

The next moment, the flag of ‘Indra’, flying till now at the city gates, is torn into two pieces.
(The sound of the flag tearing into two pieces is heard along with the unique sound similar to that of heartbeats)

The flagstaff splits and falls on the ground.
(The sound of flagstaff splitting is followed by a woman’s loud cry)

Again silence. Dead silence.
(Now camera moves forward)

Scene – 2 Bedchamber of Yasodara Night

(Camera moves forward. It moves along the corridor. It approaches the curtain in front of Yasodara’s chamber)

The curtain of the bedroom door gets torn as if some one is forcibly tearing it.
It is torn into two pieces.

(Camera moves forward and approaches the bed.)

The diamond “waist chain” of Yasodara…
From the diamond chain, the camera moves upward. Up to her bosom…

(The camera moves backward.)

The diamond chain of Yasodara is not there.
Instead, there is a serpent seen coiling around and ready to strike at her.

Yasodara’s bangles break and fall away.

The anklets break and fall on the ground.

The window shutters close with a bang.

The window curtains are torn…the pieces flying here and there.

The beautiful Yasodara and her husband Siddhartha are sleeping.

Suddenly the bedstead shakes, as if some one is shaking it forcefully.

Voice Over
(“It’s time... it’s time…” A cry is heard...)

Shaking...shaking, the bedstead goes down.

Shaking with fear Yasodara screams aloud.

(The silent bedstead… There is nothing strange now)

Yasodara wakes up with a start.
She is sweating; her eyes are staring. Fear is writ large in her face.

She looks at the place where her husband was sleeping.
It is vacant... He is not there.
Instead, the bed sheet un-crumbled...the pillow...The dress removed and left there.

Complete silence.

Instinctively her eyes wander all over.
Suddenly with all the strength she cries aloud.

Yasodara:
“Oh my Prince…! Aryaputhra!!”

Awakened Rahula cries.

Yasodara’s shouting reverberates through the palace, its corridors, and its rooms.

Yasodara’s Voice over
“Arya Puthra! My Prince…my lord….!!

Light comes in all rooms and corridors of the palace.
The guards and servants rush here and there.
Yasodara runs along the corridor crying:

Yasodara:
“Where’s my husband? Where’s he? Where’s he? Has he left me? Oh God...!”

The servants and maids run after her.
Yasodara runs into the inner chambers.
The servants rushing in and out…

The first one:
What! What happened?”
The second:
“The Prince is not to be seen.”
The third:
“He has left the palace.”

Prajapathi comes running in.
Yasodara rushes in… into the hands of Prajapathi.

Prajapathi:
“Tell me, what happened? Where is Siddhartha?”

Yasodara (sobbing):
“He has left me….Arya Puthra has left me”

Hearing this, Prajapathi falls down unconscious.
The servants and others rush to her side.

Yasodara dashes towards her own chamber crying aloud…

Scene-2(A) Durbar Hall Night

Suddhodana is going towards (entering) the Durbar Hall.
The palace guard is seen running after him…

Guard:
“Your Highness!!”

Hearing the sound, Suddhodana stops.

The guard (in a choked voice):
“Prince Siddhartha is not to be seen”

Turning round quickly,
Suddhodana:
“What?!”

The guard:
“Yes, your Highness, the Prince has renounced.”

Suddhodana shocked by the news, leans on a nearby pillar.

Scene-2(B) Yasodara’s Chamber Night

Like one possessed, Yasodara rushes in.
She runs towards her crying child, takes him in her arms, and holding him, cries aloud.

Rahula gets frightened and cries louder.

A maidservant enters.
She takes the crying child from the mother and goes out.

Suddhodana enters Yasodara’s room.
(His face is pale and reflects his agitation and sorrow.)

Wiping his tears and turning to the guard near the door,

Suddhodana:
"Who’s there? Go! Close all the gateways of the city at once!
Let the cavalry march to the boundaries and find out where the
Prince is. Tell Channa to saddle Kanthaka?”.

The guard:
“Your Highness! Channa and Kantaka are also not to be seen.”

Hearing this Suddhodana stands stunned.

Yasodara takes Siddhartha’s dress, holds it against her bosom and sobs again and again.

Next moment, like some one gone mad, she starts tearing her own dress.
Seeing this, her maids in attendance beg her not to do it.

They:
Please don’t, Princess. Please don’t”.

Prajapathi comes sobbing, led by a maid.
She comes near Yasodara and sits on the floor. She sobs…,

Prajapathi:
“I fed you with my milk, my dear son, why you've left me..!

Sobbing, Prajapathi takes Yasodara against her chest and kisses on her forehead.
(And forgetting herself, tells Yasodara not to cry)
Prajapathi:
”My dear, don’t, don’t cry…don’t cry.”

Yasodara continues sobbing.

Yasodara:
Oh mother…Where’s he? I ‘m a beggar now…”

Saying this Yasodara cries.

Wiping his eyes, with his upper cloth (Uthareeyam) Suddhodana heaves a sigh and slowly leaves the place…

The maid enters silently carrying Rahula in her hands.

Yasodara is lying inthe lap of Prajapathi.
Her look fixed on the far, the far away. Her lips, trembling…
Tears streaming from her eyes... (Silent weeping)

The maid brings the child who now has stopped crying and is silent.
For a moment Yasodara’s eyes are on the child.
Then she withdraws her eyes as if she has quietened herself.
Yasodara’s face is swollen with constant weeping.

Her eyes are fixed beyond the window.
(Slowly she is bringing to her mind, unravelling, the past days).

(Sounds of drumbeats are heard in a low tone. Gradually it becomes loud)
Yasodara’s face fades out slowly as the drumbeats become louder and louder.

Scene-3 Street near Suprabuddha’s mansion Day

The street in front of Suprabuddha’s mansion…

An announcer (Ghoshak) beats the drum.
Announcer:
“On the third day from today in the palace courtyard at Kapilavasthu, all Sakhya maidens should assemble to receive presents precious from the Prince Siddhartha.”

The people assemble around him.

The Ghoshak’s (drummer) face.
Audio
Dum..Dum...Dum…

Scene-4 Suprabudha’s Mansion (Yasodara’s Chamber) Day

Suprabudha’s residence… The topmost storey…
Yasodara’s Chamber…

Through the window of the chamber Yasodara sees the sights outside.
(The sight in Scene-3).

The first maid’s joyous voice (Overlaps)
Voice Over:
“Is it the sound of drum, or is it the heart beats of our Princess – that we heard!”

Hearing the sound, Yasodara turns round.
The maids are seen now.

The second maid in a teasing tone,
The second maid:

"What! The patient here has only wished the thing and the God above has brought to her. What else do we want dear?”

Yasodara blushes.
Yasodara:
“You get away, maid. Why mock at me?

The second maid:
“What’s there to feel shy, dear? Though you’ve not seen him till now, It’s true…you’ve heard of him. Cute and loving, handsome, fond, and calm and bold! Your dear good prince, Siddhartha is an Adonis!!”

The first maid breaks into a loud laugh.
The first maid:
Hah. Hah Hah!!

Yasodara is agitated.
Yasodara:
“Why are you making fun of me like this?”

First maid:
“Making fun? Oh. No. No…But…”

Suddenly, pointing to Yasodara’s back, the first maid continues.

First maid:
“Hey, look at that side…”

A picture drawn by Yasodara – of Siddhartha..
But three fourth of it is not visible.

The second maid with surprise:
‘By mere hearing, if you can draw this picture, how deep that figure must have impressed itself in thy heart dear?!”
The first maid:
“Yes, True...”

Moving aside quickly and hiding the picture somewhat,
Yasodara (as a request):

“My dear, please don’t tell this to anyone.”

First maid:
“If we don’t tell anybody, how will you get him, dear? Haven’t you heard the Royal Command?”

Yasodara’s face… Shade of sorrow… Seeing this, and, feeling concern,

The second maid:
“All right dear! Come on now. It’s time for your bath.’

Scene-5 A small pond near a small mantap Morning

With plates in hands, servants are standing near Yasodara.
A beauty lotion made from turmeric and sandal paste is anointed on Yasodara’s face and hands and legs.

Yasodara in contemplative mood murmurs to herself….

Yasodara’s Voice Over:

"How does he look like? Will it be like the picture I’ve drawn? If he sees me, will he like me? Or will he turn his face away? He will like me. My mind tells me so. I have not seen him so far... But… the face in my heart… Those calm eyes…in my previous birth, perhaps…”

First maid’s Voice Over
”Oh Yasodara dear! What is it that you are thinking?”

Yasodara starts.
Yasodara:
Hey!

Scene-6 Courtyard of Palace Day

The courtyard of the palace…
A festive atmosphere…
A dance competition is going on… Beautiful maidens take part.
A joyous crowd of people, stand, there… They are cheering.
(Old people, sick people etc., are not in the picture).
Dances…. Play of musical instruments etc.

Hands and feet red with painted juices and faces partly hidden by ‘see through’ veils and wearing fine dresses, young maidens walk with slow, graceful steps and dance beautifully.

With peaceful, dignified appearance, Siddhartha sits on the dais enjoying the dance. Near him are seated Minister Udayi, Raja guru, Nandan and others.

With shy faces, the young maidens, after their dance, walk to the dais.
People cheer up, when each maiden walks to the dais.

Having no interest in all these celebrations, sits Siddhartha with a peaceful, dignified countenance.

As the maidens come near Siddhartha, they lose the courage even to lift their faces and see him. They perspire and feel weak. Somehow they manage to come before him, receive the gift he presents and then they leave the dais with an agitated face.

Siddhartha’s calm face…
The passing group of maidens…
Udayi looks at Siddhartha and the maidens alternately.

In the tray in front lie the jewels and other items to be given as presents.
The items are getting fewer and fewer.
The maidens come one by one and go.
In the tray, the jewels and other items are almost exhausted.

The people’s voices are getting louder.
The changed emotional expressions of the Minister and the Priest..

An air of surprise…
The people become silent suddenly. (Sounds of surprise)

Walking slowly, very slowly, now comes Yasodara...
She ascends the dais in graceful steps.

All the while she says to herself,
Yasodara’s Voice Over:
‘Oh, God, give me strength!"

She comes in front of Siddhartha and stands silently, unmoved…
Slowly she lifts her face and looks.

The picture (Siddhartha’s – Scene-4) drawn by her

Yasodara’s face…
Yasodara to herself Voice Over:
Oh God! That picture!”

Siddhartha’s face…
Yasodara’s face…

Siddhartha lifts his face slowly.
As if shocked, Siddhartha’s facial expression…
He looks at her.

Yasodara also looks steadily at him.
Looking at Yasodara, Siddhartha sits as if he is down memory’s lane…

Yasodara looks with wide-open eyes at Siddhartha again and again.
Their eyes meet.

People:
“Wonderful! Amazing!! She is an angel!!!”

(The people shouting with surprise OVP)

Yasodara smiles gently.
Siddhartha also smiles.

Very slowly, softly, moving his lips, Siddhartha asks her.
Siddhartha:
“Beauty, You're very Beautiful! What’s your name…?”

Yasodara:
“What’s in a name Prince? But, hmm…I’m Yasodara.”

Siddhartha’s lips tremble.
But moving his lips (as if to himself and as if he has forgotten the surroundings)

Siddhartha murmurs:
Ya….so…da...ra…! I know this name…But…

Yasodara is looking at him.
So also is Siddhartha.

After looking at him for sometime, and passing a glance over the tray unintentionally, and looking again straight and deep into his eyes, in a mellifluous voice, Yasodara asks,
Yasodara:
“What’s your gift for me, Prince? If there’s nothing better I shall…..?

Shaking himself and sitting erect, Siddhartha smiles gently,
(He looks at the tray. It is empty…)

Siddhartha:
“No. No Sorry. Please …wait…But, Yes. To give you, in my hands…”

Swiftly, he takes the diamond ornament (Chain-the waist chain shown in scene No.2) from his neck and with trembling fingers, ties it around her waist.

Cheers from the crowd.
They dance dearly.

Minister, Rajguru, Nanda etc. are happy.

Yasodara’s face…
As if blessed she stands.

(The loud applause and shouts of delight of the people can be heard.)
The people dance merrily….
